Most people spend long hours at a desk in the workplace. Whether this desk is a workbench with equipment, a packing station or a more traditional desk with a monitor and keyboard. A consequence of these long hours at the desk is bad posture, repetitive strain injuries, fatigue and a host of other ailments.

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is a condition caused by repetitive actions carried out over a long period of which eventually leads to pain or impairment of function in the tendons and muscles. RSI is most common in hands, arms and shoulders. It often occurs in people who work with computers or carry out repetitive manual work.

The use of custom made ergonomic workstations (or industrial furniture) can potentially reduce or eliminate these symptoms, thereby saving costs to the company and discomfort to employees.

Office desks

A common requirement is a desk that is heigh adjustable to allow employees to sit or stand at the desk. This requirement is common for design offices, computer programmers, data analysts etc. The act of standing rather than sitting at the desk all the time relieves back stress and encourages a lot more movement where static operation is usually the norm. These adjustable height desks can be fitted out to meet the requirements of the function being performed. For example, the design may include front and back power and data points, adjustable monitor arms, shelves and drawers, printer or other equipment cradles etc.

Desks and workstations also can be designed for specific employees who have particular disabilities or injuries.
